Growing and Zucchini Noms

Haven't posted recently because I've not made anything worth posting recently, until this last week when I made zucchini bread for the very first time. It turned out fantastically, though it needed something, so I think when I make it again, Ill add walnuts or something to it, just for that extra texture.

So on to the growing part of today's topic. I found a link on Pinterest that showed me how to re-use the ends of certain veggies, which you can find here. So I used some of the tips and started with Green onions. After I was done with them, I stuck the white parts into a cup of water, and two weeks later, this:
They are growing nicely! I also figured since it was similar, to try the baby bok choy end I had. So stuck it in the water three days ago and this is the result:
Its growing like crazy! Im happy about it! I need to do this with romaine because we eat a lot of it.

So Im hoping more posts will come soon as I want to make more fall foods likes soups and stews, make breads of all sorts and lots of things. If you have any suggestions on what to make, or recipes that would be tasty, please let me know!

Risotto Noms

Another awesome creation!

Tonight, I made Seafood Risotto. Very simple if a bit time consuming, and very, very tasty! Arborio rice, saffron, onion, butter, basil, white wine, clam juice, clams and salmon were the bulk of the ingridents.

Im all warm now from stirring and stirring over the stove, but it was worth it! Ill have to do other kinds now!

In the cooking process:
And the final product!
Im not good at the garnishing thing, so its kinda bland looking, but oh its tasty!
Ill post the recipe here shortly!

Chicken Noms

Tonight for dinner, I am making lemon butter chicken, sauteed green beans and yellow squash, and white rice.

For the chicken, I am using boneless skinless chicken breasts, and cooked in butter and lemon juice, with salt, pepper and garlic.
For the sauteed green beans and yellow squash, I had originally planned to cook the squash on the grill yesterday, but forgot to do it, so it marinated in salt, garlic, pepper and olive oil. I added them to the pan, then cut the green beans and added them in. I cooked them until tender.
Here is the final result! I put some butter and salt on the rice! It turned out very good!

Egg Noms

For breakfast this morning, I made sausage, eggs and toast! Only I did the eggs inside the toast!

I used a lid to cut the centers from the bread after I buttered them, then added them to the pan, cracked the eggs in the centers and cooked! Very tasty and very easy!

Strawberry Noms

Last night, I had inspiration! I wanted to get puffy things like the cake part of cream puffs, but the store didnt have them, and I've never made them. Oh well! I found something else instead! Sugar cookies!

So I used those instead for my dessert idea. That idea? Strawberry cream puffs, or in this case, strawberry cream cookie sammiches!

I made home made strawberry whipped cream. A pint of heavy whipping cream, a pinch of salt, sugar to taste, and diced strawberries! I started the whipping cream up until it was halfway ready, then added the strawberries till it was all done. I let it sit in the fridge for a while until I was ready for it. We piled it on the cookies, and ohhh it was heaven! Need softer cookies next time, or get the puffy things and fill them.  Mmm... should make doughnuts and fill those. So many ideas to try.

Well thats all at the moment!

Thought Noms Number One

Hello and Welcome to Thought Noms!

What are Thought Noms you ask? Why, they are food for thought and thoughts on food! Here I will discuss my culinary creations, places I've eaten, take advice, tips and whatever else may pertain to the topics at hand!

Please feel free to critique and comment, post your own recipes and ideas! I'm always open to suggestions as well!

About me? Well, I'm 28 years old, married happily to Tim, live with two room mates in Beaverton, Oregon and enjoy reading, writing, fishing, camping... And lots more really, but this isn't about that, unless I manage to do some sort of cooking while doing those other things!

I love to cook, took two years of Home EC in high school, have self taught the rest. I started off making lots of tater tots and chicken nuggets, and lots of things from boxes, to slowly gathering cook books, experimenting and trying new foods till I got where I am today. I'm still not great, have a tendency to not properly read directions in a recipe and having it take a lot longer than I thought it should, or saying dinner will be at such and such time, only for it to end up being three hours past that time. So I have lots to learn, but I really enjoy cooking and enjoy when others enjoy my foods!

So there you have it, Im a novice foodie! Oh well, I live in the Portland area so it was inevitable right? Anyway, enough for today, Ill post more when I've done more!

Later!
